2010 Eve Kraft Award Winner Helen Moser Petersen

The USTA has announced that Helen Moser Petersen of Indianapolis, Ind., was selected as a 2010 USTA Eve F. Kraft Community Service Award recipient. Petersen will be honored along with Bev Taylor of Houston, Texas at an awards banquet before more than 600 community tennis leaders during the annual USTA Community Tennis Development Workshop held January 22-24, 2010, at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina in San Diego, Calif.

The USTA bestows the Eve F. Kraft Community Service Award upon individuals who perpetuate Kraft’s selfless mission to bring the game of tennis to everyone who wants to play.
Helen Moser Petersen has been at the forefront of tennis in Indianapolis. In 1990, Petersen organized and incorporated the Hamilton County Tennis Association, a Community Tennis Association (CTA) that promotes numerous tennis programs, including the National Junior Tennis League (NJTL). She serves as president of the nonprofit CTA, whose mission is to create championship citizens through tennis.

Petersen has had the opportunity to work directly with tennis pioneers Arthur Ashe and Eve Kraft, for whom this award is named. A 4.5 level USTA League tennis player, Petersen also is very active at the Carmel Racquet Club, where she serves as the editor of the club’s newsletter.

Congratulations for being selected as the 2007 Hamilton County Community Tennis Association (HCCTA) Volunteer of the Year. Your accounting skills, financial acumen, and passion for helping others are unmatched. You have single-handedly brought HCCTA into the computer age and made HCCTA a more professional organization. We are proud to call you a CRC member.

The second annual Doc Richards Memorial Tennis Tournament, "The Doc," was held June 9. More than 32 players participated in this year's event which raised nearly $4000 for the HCCTA College Scholarships and the Heritage Christian Doc Richards Scholarship (student athlete).

Open Division Winners (round robin):

Senior Men's Division results:
Sam Suthpin and Court Jackson defeated Dave Held/Will Higgins for the championship. Tom Frew, JB Hayes and Bernie Miller won the consolation match. Chip Bondurant, Bob Browning and Dave Resley won the semi-final reprieve (3rd place). John Carter and Todd Werner won the "Last Chance" division.

Colin Atkinson, the tournament chair, said, "Everyone had a great time and got to play a lot of tennis with the triple elimination format in the senior division.
